Would you be surprised to find out that a scientist has used the science of mathematical probability to prove that the Bible is the Word of God, and Jesus is the Son of God? I like to use a remarkable illustration from it that scientifically validates Jesus as God in the flesh. Would you be surprised to find out that a scientist has used the science of mathematical probability to prove that the Bible is the Word of God, and Jesus is the Son of God? I like to use a remarkable illustration from it that scientifically validates Jesus as God in the flesh. I discovered that the booklet was first published in and has gone through several subsequent editions.
And after considerable searching on the Internet, I was finally able to find a revised edition published in There he served as chairman of the science division. In the edition I purchased, there was a foreword by Dr. Harold Hartzler, an officer of the American Scientific Affiliation. Science Speaks in the Bible Stoner begins his book with a very interesting insight about a book written by Charles Young. He was the author of the standard college textbook on astronomy that was published in Now think about that for a moment.
A Science book that was only 60 years old was full of scientific errors. Yet, the Bible, written between 3, to 2, years ago does not contain any scientific errors! How can that be? The answer, of course, has to be that the Bible is supernatural in origin. Consider for a moment the following scientific truths contained in the Bible. For example, the shape of the earth is mentioned in Isaiah A reference to ocean currents can be found in Psalm The hydraulic cycle is described in Ecclesiastes The significance of blood as the key to life is found in Leviticus Modern laws of hygiene can be found in Leviticus 11 through In contrast, consider the following revelations of Mohammed that are contained in the Hadith, one of the sacred books of Islam.
He wrote: The earth is flat like a carpet. The sun sets in a muddy spring. Stars are closer to earth than the moon. Water cannot be contaminated by anything. Drinking camel urine will make you healthy. A fly in your drink can cure you of disease. Fever comes from the heat of Hell. Such errors are expected in documents written over 1, years ago, but such errors are not found in the Bible.
Stoner proceeds to present scientific evidence in behalf of Special Creation. For example, he points out that Science had previously taught that Special Creation was absolutely impossible because matter could not be destroyed or created. He then points out that atomic physics has now proved that energy can be turned into matter and matter into energy. Stoner then considers the order of creation as presented in Genesis He presents argument after argument from a scientific viewpoint to sustain the order which Genesis chronicles.
Science Speaks in the Bible (Part 1 of 6)
Among these, that the estimates may be too high, or that the events are statistically connected - so that fulfilling one prophecy will virtually guarantee fulfillment of another. Every attempt has been made to keep these estimates conservative beyond any reasonable challenge: 1. This prophecy predicts that the Christ will come out of Bethlehem. In Micah we learn that Bethlehem is also to be his place of birth. This greatly limits the total number of candidates which could possibly be the Messiah to those who came from Bethlehem.
Science and God are not at odds. But Christian faith does assert some things to be objectively true about the nature of the universe; if those claims are to accepted, it is fair to expect that objective evidences, as far as we can observe, would be consistent with them. Though written by a scientist a mathematician , the book is intended for a non-specialist audience, and provides a short, clearly-written summary of the evidence up to that time; there have been further discoveries since, of course that point to the existence of a creating and superintending Intelligence in the universe. But with its limitations, it does provide a very basic, simple starting point for the Christian who wants to know more about the basis for faith, as well as for the searching nonbeliever who wants to objectively consider the evidence. The evidence laid out in the book is persuasive starting with a comparison of the creation account in Genesis with proven scientific knowledge that was not established at the time Genesis was written, fulfillment of A sincere attempt to critically assess whether science and history supports the view that the books of the Bible were indeed written under the inspiration of a supernatural all-knowing power, force, energy or entity - in particular, the Omnipotent God of the Judaeo-Christian faiths. The evidence laid out in the book is persuasive starting with a comparison of the creation account in Genesis with proven scientific knowledge that was not established at the time Genesis was written, fulfillment of prophecies primarily from the old testament concerning ancient peoples, cities and nations, and fulfillment of prophecies regarding the historical Christ.
Science Speaks: Scientific Proof of the Accuracy of Prophecy and the Bible
If the chance of one thing happening is one in M and the chance of another, and independent thing happening is one in N, then the chance that they both shall happen is one in M times N. In his forward to this book H. Harold Hartzler, Ph. The mathematical analysis included is based upon principles of probability which are thoroughly sound and Professor Stoner has applied these principles in a proper and convincing way. To arrive at the answer Stoner started with the average population of Bethlehem from the days of the prophet Micah to this present time and divided it by the average population of the earth for the same period. It was discovered that this ratio was 1 to ,
